Before I jump right into how I have been using essential oils recently, let me revisit a post I did last year to give a little background on essential oils -
An essential oil is a liquid containing aroma compounds from plants. An oil is considered 'essential' because it carries a distinctive scent or essence of the plant. Essential oils are also used for massage therapy, emotional health, personal care, nutritional supplements, household solutions, and much more.
Interest in essential oils has revived over recent years with the popularity of aromatherapy on the rise. Aromatherapy is a branch of alternative medicine in which essential oils and other aromatic compounds have healing effects. Many are also claimed to have an uplifting effect on the mind.
The science of using oils that are extracted from plants to enhance physical and emotional well-being isn't as new as we might think. Evidence of its use can be traced back to ancient Egypt, Greece, and Rome. However, this isn't folk medicine: Studies have found that inhaling essential oils actually has psychological and physiological benefits.
