We didn't travel this weekend, so we took the opportunity to do some fun things around town. Here is a recap:
We had a date night at Flix Brehouse, which is a newer place near us. It is a movie theater where you can order drinks and food before and during the movie. It was phenomenal. Why didn't I think of this idea?!
On Saturday we spent the morning and afternoon at Josh's grandparents house. It was their town Fall Festival, so we got enjoy the local events going on. It was such a beautiful day!
On Saturday evening we met with great friends of ours to enjoy a baseball game together. It was the perfect evening to catch a local game!
Sunday started with church and then brunch at one of our favorite local spots. Then, I followed the online stats during my sister's field hockey game. Afterwards, we soaked up some sunshine at the golf course in the afternoon.
The temperature was in the upper 70's and I just could not force myself to check things off my to-do list inside while the sun was still shining - sooo I went for a nice little jog around the neighborhood.
I finally talked myself into working on that to-do list. I opened up all the windows in the house, put on some dancing music, and got to cleaning.
I caught Leo in this pose after his walk.. I guess he wasn't ready to come inside either.
A highlight of my weekend happened Sunday evening when my husband pulled in the driveway with this beaut (the kayak, not me. ha). I cannot wait to get out on the water in my new kayak! Maybe next weekend?!
Towards evening when the cleaning was done, groceries were bought, and the meals were prepped, we got to settling down. Football on the TV, a hot tea in my hand, and a new book on my lap. (more on the book in a post this week).
A pretty random weekend, but sometimes those are the best ones.
I hope everyone's week is off to a great start!
I hope everyone had a spectacular Labor Day weekend. I sure did! Below is a recap in photos:
We traveled to Traverse City, Michigan to enjoy beaches, wineries, fishing, and exploring. This is the view from the top of Mission LightHouse at the northern most part of the Michigan Peninsula.
We enjoyed local food and local brews at some great local spots. Can you tell we love local?! :)
We were surrounded by beautiful scenery.
Josh found us the most PERFECT fishing spot - just gorgeous!
The Filling Station was one of our favorite spots.
Part of our morning workouts took place right here. Can't be beat.
I found a local Yoga spot, and of course I just had to check it out. I loved it! I couldn't pass up these thick headbands on my way out.
We were so happy that the weather allowed us to have some time to relax on the beach. This view does not suck.
Green juice sufficed for our lunch one day.. it was a good choice. I think mine had kale, spinach, pineapple, banana, and apple juice. Delicious!
No vacation we take is complete without a winery experience. It is one of our favorite things to do. The Chateau Grand Traverse winery had a beautiful deck overlooking the vineyard.
We didn't leave without a variety case of wine, obviously :)
One of our favorite parts of the long weekend was on a rooftop sipping wine, and munching one these snacks. Enjoying each other's company as well as some pretty good people watching.
I had never heard of GMO Free, organic ice cream, so when we saw this local ice cream shop we just had to try it out - we were not disappointed.
On our drive home, we stopped in South Haven, Michigan, which was another place on our list before we decided on Traverse City this time. We enjoyed a local brew at a beach bar on the water while listening to live music. Such a great way to close out the trip!
It was a wonderful weekend away, and just what we needed. Although we weren't quite ready to come back to reality, we have a few more adventures and trips planned to look forward to over the next few months.
We spent this past weekend in PA visiting family, and as usual, it was a fantastic time. A short recap of photos is below.
We started by celebrating my Grandma's birthday. I am so thankful for my grandparents and the time I get to spend with them, even though they are far away.
On Sunday we went to my sisters college field hockey game. They had their home opener vs my alma mater! There are several alumni who live in PA and who also played with me at BSU. So, we were able to get a few members from our old team together to tailgate and watch the game.
Always an absolute blast to get together with this crew!
These 3 were the field hockey super dads during my tenure at BSU. My dad and the other 2 just had to rep their retro BSUFH jackets!
I got all choked up watching my baby sister get announced in the starting line up. Pretty cool experience to get to see her play against my alma mater. Not sure if the tears were from how proud I was or how old I felt ;)
She had an awesome game!
My sister's team, Lafayette, ended up beating BSU 3-2!
There were actually some older alumni there too that we met.
A photo with the new BSU coach, who also played for the team - a few years before me..
No time spent with my family is complete without a family selfie!
This was a perfect quote to post while on our drive home. I am always in tears when I leave them, but we are looking forward to the next trip :)
After the 10 hour drive, I was able to get outside and enjoy a nice jog around the neighborhood. It was a nice way to reflect after a wonderful weekend.
Another weekend recap coming at ya...
We were actually in town this weekend, so we decided to cross some fun, local activities off our list.
Friday evening we started our weekend with a date at the state fair. We enjoyed walking around, people watching, seeing the animals, and of course trying some not-so-healthy fair food.
All I have to say is: Tomato Balls. Seriously, do yourself a favor and try these.
This pig won an award for weighing 1,134 pounds. He would just lay there. I don't think the poor guy even felt like moving. I kept joking that this is totally how I feel/look after a cheat meal.
After my Saturday morning workout I spent some time by the pool catching some rays. Then later on we went canoeing. It was such a beautiful summer day!
We could get away with calling our 6 mile canoe trip - cabrewing - since we packed a stocked cooler.
Afterwards, we went to a local brewery for some more drinks and enjoyed watching the Colts preseason game on the tube.
Sunday was a special day for us because Leo turned 5 years old!
He is just the absolute best dog child, so we treated him to some yummy birthday treats, new toys, and a fun hike for his birthday.
I was itching to play a little field hockey after our hike, so I did some hitting around in the yard Sunday evening trying to impress Josh with my skills. Man, I miss playing!
And of course, as usual, our Sunday came to a close with some weekly meal prep. In this photo are the preparations being made for the Crockpot Pork Loin with Sweet Potatoes, Carrots, and Onions Recipe. I substituted the carrots for some zucchini squash we had in the freezer in this time.
Happy Monday, everyone!
Happy Monday! I hope everyone was able to enjoy the beautiful summer weekend.
Our weekend began on Friday evening with delicious dinner and drinks with Josh's family. It truly is a blessing to have married into a family that treats me as one of their own.
The rest of the weekend we had a blast celebrating my birthday with some great friends. We headed to St. Louis, and while there we toured the Anheuser-Busch Brewery, watched a Cardinals game, and enjoyed a night on the town. Here is a recap in photos:
St Louis bound!
We got to see several Clydesdales while on the Budweiser tour. This guy's name is Bruce. He looks like he is just used to posing for pictures all day long.
One of the buildings on the tour - this is actually one of the most photographed places in St. Louis, along with the arch.
This is the mash room - it was hotter in that room than it was outside. Very cool to be able to see it though. By the way, our selfie stick game was on point this trip :)
In between the tour and the game, we spent some time hanging out and drinking in Baseball Village. Very cool place full of bars and restaurants right outside the stadium.
This girl shares the same birthday with me! It was so much fun to be able to celebrate our birthdays together.. might have to make it an annual thing :)
Another amazing, fun-filled weekend in the books!
I hope everyone has a fabulous week!
I am back with another weekend recap for ya. Things have been super busy for me, but don't worry, I have some killer recipes and healthy lifestyle posts in my drafts that I just have to put some finishing touches on. Stay tuned! In the meantime...
Last week I traveled to Baltimore for work. I have visited there several times before. My family lives just about 2 hours from Inner Harbor. I had some delicious foods and spent some time by the water in between meetings.
My first meal was at Bubba Gump Shrimp. I couldn't resist the surf and turf. I love trying new places.. I love being by the water.. and I love seafood. Perfection.
Friday night we had tickets for the OAR concert. It was held in a very cool venue - White River State Park in downtown Indy. OAR put on a heck of a show, and we had a blast!
On Saturday, we went to Josh's cousins house for a float. They live along the river, so it was a perfect day to soak up some sun, eat delicious food, and float down the river with a drink in hand. We had so much fun with family and friends - perfect summer day!
Josh and I both got another tattoo on Sunday, We are both extremely happy with the way the tattoos turned out. If you are interested in knowing the meaning behind this tattoo for me, check out my Instagram post.
After we got our tattoos, we met up with Josh's brother and his girlfriend at Triton Tap for a couple brewskis. We had never been there before, so it was cool to try out a new spot. Then before we knew it, it was time to prep for the week ahead!
I hope you had a great weekend, and your week is off to a great start!
Busy busy week in my neck of the woods, so here is another weekend recap of mostly pictures - enjoy!
Friday morning we began our weekend trek to Chicago. Cubs vs. Phillies was our main event on Friday and Saturday afternoons. You better believe I was decked out in my Phillies gear... but I couldn't let Josh out to dry since he is a big Cubs fan, so I dressed for both teams :)
We asked another couple to tag along, and we all had a blast! Don't mind my hat covering my eyes in this photo.. no clue what I was doing here.
After the game we walked around Chicago and had a beautiful dinner at a French restaurant. So good that I was too concerned with eating and drinking to take any photos. After dinner, we had a few more drinks at a different bar, and enjoyed each other's company.
The next morning we walked to a lovely little place for brunch. The food was soo good. It was a plus that we walked everywhere because we sure enjoyed our meals :)
After brunch, we did a little damage on the Magnificent Mile. Nordstrom Rack, you are welcome for all the money I spend at your store. I saw this shirt, and almost bought it, but my hands were already a little too full of other items :)
It is always a must to do a little bar hopping in Wrigleyville before the games.
We got to witness the Phillies pitch a no hitter against the Cubs on Saturday. This was something I didn't even realize was on my bucket list until I got to see it - so incredible!
We got back home later Saturday night, so Sunday was a slow morning. However, I needed to get my butt in gear and get moving. Josh was going to help his brothers get their new house ready to move into, so I decided to meet him there... by bike. I ended up taking the Monon Trail from our house to theirs - a total of 15 miles. That might sound like a lot, but honestly it was easy, flat riding and I really enjoyed every minute of it.
The weekend ended with a little treat to myself. I have been wanting to get my nose repeirced for a long time now, and just never pulled the trigger. I had my nose pierced for 5 years, and then had it out for about 3 years. Welp, I got it repeirced, and I am SO happy I did! Don't mind the creepy selfie I took of it right afterwards :)
It was another Summer weekend for the books!
This weekend recap is going to be mostly photos, so if you're not into that then I apologize ahead of time.
This past weekend was nothing short of fabulous. My family came to visit, and we had a blast! One of my sisters couldn't make it, so we made sure to send her pics throughout the weekend so she felt apart of it all.
Friday evening my sister joined me at CrossFit. She had never participated in a CrossFit class before, but she kicked butt! Right after that we headed to the track to do her preseason workout together. Let's just say, I'm still sore.
Later that day we all went fishing. We didn't catch anything.. except for a whole lot of weeds.
Friday night we went to the Dave Matthews Band concert. It was so so so fun! I went last year with my other sister, and so it was great to experience it with Cody this year. Hopefully, we can all go together one of these days!
Of course we love that Josh tags along too :)
We enjoyed the show with some great friends.
Saturday morning it was time to sweat again, so we made our way to a local trail and got in a great workout together. Josh and dad opted out of the workout, and went to the local cigar shop instead.
On Saturday night we got to experience the second Dave Matthews Band show!
Another great show with great company!
It was a beautiful night to be outside enjoying some music and dancing along.
Sunday was full of activities.. we started out at the driving range. By the end, we were all sending the balls sailing through the sky!
Next was the batting cages, and then we enjoyed a friendly competition of putt putt.
Before the day ended, we made our way to the track for another workout. It was so beautiful all weekend that we just had to be outside as much as possible.
On Monday, we adventured on a little road trip together.. complete with a stop at a hole-in-the-wall greasy spoon diner too. I wish I would have snapped a pic of the place. The food was sooo good there.
As always, it is so sad saying goodbye to my family, but I am already looking forward to the next time I get to see them. They are my foundation, and no matter what happens, they are and always will be my people. Thankful to call these people my tribe and my family.
What did you do this weekend?
