Even though I am LOVING this extended Summer weather, I decided it was probably time to spruce up my front porch with some Fall decor.
I have simply included photos with a short description of the items I like to use on my porch this time of year.
For the last couple years we have had a monogrammed welcome mat that my mom got us. but it was started to look a little weathered. so we switched it out for this warm welcome mat.
I love my wreath because I use the same one all year round. All I do is change the accessories and flowers on it with each season or holiday.
During the Fall, my front porch comes to life with mums and pumpkins. Those are my must haves.
I added a hanging basket of pansies as well to try and pull it all together.
Nothing fancy this year. Very simple, and I love it.
Happy Fall Y'all!
We didn't travel this weekend, so we took the opportunity to do some fun things around town. Here is a recap:
We had a date night at Flix Brehouse, which is a newer place near us. It is a movie theater where you can order drinks and food before and during the movie. It was phenomenal. Why didn't I think of this idea?!
On Saturday we spent the morning and afternoon at Josh's grandparents house. It was their town Fall Festival, so we got enjoy the local events going on. It was such a beautiful day!
On Saturday evening we met with great friends of ours to enjoy a baseball game together. It was the perfect evening to catch a local game!
Sunday started with church and then brunch at one of our favorite local spots. Then, I followed the online stats during my sister's field hockey game. Afterwards, we soaked up some sunshine at the golf course in the afternoon.
The temperature was in the upper 70's and I just could not force myself to check things off my to-do list inside while the sun was still shining - sooo I went for a nice little jog around the neighborhood.
I finally talked myself into working on that to-do list. I opened up all the windows in the house, put on some dancing music, and got to cleaning.
I caught Leo in this pose after his walk.. I guess he wasn't ready to come inside either.
A highlight of my weekend happened Sunday evening when my husband pulled in the driveway with this beaut (the kayak, not me. ha). I cannot wait to get out on the water in my new kayak! Maybe next weekend?!
Towards evening when the cleaning was done, groceries were bought, and the meals were prepped, we got to settling down. Football on the TV, a hot tea in my hand, and a new book on my lap. (more on the book in a post this week).
A pretty random weekend, but sometimes those are the best ones.
I hope everyone's week is off to a great start!
This dish is so on point that I just had to share it. You could make this as a side dish for a cookout, or an appetizer when entertaining, or in my case a yummy lunchtime salad.
- In a small bowl combine red onion, lime juice, olive oil, salt and pepper. Let them marinate at least 5 minutes to mellow the flavor of the onion.
- In a large bowl combine chopped shrimp, avocado, tomato. Combine all the ingredients together, add cilantro and gently toss. Adjust salt and pepper to taste.
Serve and enjoy!
Note: This recipe is Paleo-friendly!
A friend of mine is a huge fan of the Advocare Spark Energy drinks, and offered me to try it out and share a review with my readers.
In case you don't know, Advocare Spark Energy is an over-the-counter dietary supplement containing a blend of 21 vitamins, minerals, and nutrients. The blend is designed to boost energy and mental focus in a nutritious and healthy way. Advocare Spark Energy is available in powder form to be mixed with water or another beverage between meals.
I used the Spark drink as my 2:30 PM pick-me-up during the work day. I will sometimes have a green tea at this time, but sometimes it is just not enough.
This is the grape flavor, and I must say, I was pleasantly surprised. I usually am not a huge grape fan. but this was actually pretty good.
The second flavor I tried was the Fruit Punch - this was my favorite out of the two. I definitely felt a jolt in my energy, like I would with a cup of coffee. However, I would not rely on Spark as my pick-me-up everyday single day, but it might serve as a good way for me to switch things up or when I am in need of that extra caffeine surge.
Here are some detailed points about the energy drink:
Advocare Spark Energy contains several other key ingredients which help boost energy or provide protection from free radicals by acting as antioxidants. These ingredients include the amino acids taurine and L-tyrosine and the neurotransmitter-related chemicals choline and GABA as well as citrus flavonoids and inositol. Taurine is a common ingredient in energy drinks as it supports the nervous system and may improve athletic performance or when combined with caffeine, improve mental function, according to MayoClinic.com. L-tyrosine is an important building block for several neurotransmitters that play a large role in influencing mood. Choline is a precursor to the neurotransmitter acetylcholine and GABA is a neurotransmitter, both of which play roles in controlling a variety of mental functions. The citrus flavonoids include phytochemicals such as rutin, hesperidin, quercetin and naringin which have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Inositol helps make cell membranes and is required by the body in small amounts, according to the National Cancer Institute.
Advocare Spark Energy contains the mineral zinc and a variety of important vitamins. It provides high amounts of nearly all the B-complex vitamins which include vitamin B6 and B12, thiamine, riboflavin, niacin and pantothenic acid. Each serving provides 750 percent daily value of vitamin B6 and B12 and between 200 and 500 percent daily value for the remaining B-vitamins, according to Advocare. B-vitamins play a large role in converting the food we eat into energy as well as participating in a variety of other bodily functions. Advocare Spark Energy also contains 20 percent, 300 percent and 200 percent daily values of the vitamins A, C and E, respectively, and small amounts of the mineral zinc.
Each 8 oz. serving of Advocare Spark Energy contains 120 milligrams of caffeine or approximately the amount of caffeine provided by a single cup of brewed coffee, according to Advocare. Caffeine is a central nervous system stimulant that increases heart rate and raises blood pressure, among other effects. This can provide a temporary boost of energy and may help increase mental energy and focus, according to Advocare.

I hope everyone had a spectacular Labor Day weekend. I sure did! Below is a recap in photos:
We traveled to Traverse City, Michigan to enjoy beaches, wineries, fishing, and exploring. This is the view from the top of Mission LightHouse at the northern most part of the Michigan Peninsula.
We enjoyed local food and local brews at some great local spots. Can you tell we love local?! :)
We were surrounded by beautiful scenery.
Josh found us the most PERFECT fishing spot - just gorgeous!
The Filling Station was one of our favorite spots.
Part of our morning workouts took place right here. Can't be beat.
I found a local Yoga spot, and of course I just had to check it out. I loved it! I couldn't pass up these thick headbands on my way out.
We were so happy that the weather allowed us to have some time to relax on the beach. This view does not suck.
Green juice sufficed for our lunch one day.. it was a good choice. I think mine had kale, spinach, pineapple, banana, and apple juice. Delicious!
No vacation we take is complete without a winery experience. It is one of our favorite things to do. The Chateau Grand Traverse winery had a beautiful deck overlooking the vineyard.
We didn't leave without a variety case of wine, obviously :)
One of our favorite parts of the long weekend was on a rooftop sipping wine, and munching one these snacks. Enjoying each other's company as well as some pretty good people watching.
I had never heard of GMO Free, organic ice cream, so when we saw this local ice cream shop we just had to try it out - we were not disappointed.
On our drive home, we stopped in South Haven, Michigan, which was another place on our list before we decided on Traverse City this time. We enjoyed a local brew at a beach bar on the water while listening to live music. Such a great way to close out the trip!
It was a wonderful weekend away, and just what we needed. Although we weren't quite ready to come back to reality, we have a few more adventures and trips planned to look forward to over the next few months.
I have been following AsRx on Instagram for quite some time now, so you can imagine how excited I was to be able to try out some of the AsRx products.
Before I get into the product review portion of the post, I want to share what AsRx is all about:
Don't you just love that?! I think it is a great message they are spreading to lead by example and to not be fazed by the critics.
Now onto the goodies they were kind enough to send me...
The tank top is the AsRx Staple version. The color is charcoal and is made of a tri-blend material, which is great for working out in. I love wearing it to represent such a strong brand in the CrossFit community. I actually have a list of other tanks I want to order from their website!
Wrist wraps are everything in the CrossFit world, and the AsRx version is no exception. They provide the stability my wrists need, especially when I am lifting weight in overhead movements. I love the color grey, but if you're a little more colorful, they have options for you too :)
A headband doesn't need much explantantion, but I will say that this one doesn't move on my head like so many I have tried. It really stays in place, and I am a fan of the thickness too. You must check out the other color options!
I am all for supporting businesses and brands that I truly believe in the mission of their company. AsRx has won me over with their quality products, and I will definitely be repping more of their gear!
Be sure to check them out on their website or keep up with them on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.

We spent this past weekend in PA visiting family, and as usual, it was a fantastic time. A short recap of photos is below.
We started by celebrating my Grandma's birthday. I am so thankful for my grandparents and the time I get to spend with them, even though they are far away.
On Sunday we went to my sisters college field hockey game. They had their home opener vs my alma mater! There are several alumni who live in PA and who also played with me at BSU. So, we were able to get a few members from our old team together to tailgate and watch the game.
Always an absolute blast to get together with this crew!
These 3 were the field hockey super dads during my tenure at BSU. My dad and the other 2 just had to rep their retro BSUFH jackets!
I got all choked up watching my baby sister get announced in the starting line up. Pretty cool experience to get to see her play against my alma mater. Not sure if the tears were from how proud I was or how old I felt ;)
She had an awesome game!
My sister's team, Lafayette, ended up beating BSU 3-2!
There were actually some older alumni there too that we met.
A photo with the new BSU coach, who also played for the team - a few years before me..
No time spent with my family is complete without a family selfie!
This was a perfect quote to post while on our drive home. I am always in tears when I leave them, but we are looking forward to the next trip :)
After the 10 hour drive, I was able to get outside and enjoy a nice jog around the neighborhood. It was a nice way to reflect after a wonderful weekend.
