"The two most important days in your life are the day you are born, and the day you find out why." - Mark Twain
The infographic below shows a breakdown of when various fruits and vegetables are harvested and when they are likely available at your local market. What a great tool to help keep track of what is in season!
Women's Health Magazine published a great article about fatty foods that can actually be good for you. I think it is priceless information, so I included some of the facts below from their article.
Healthy fats can quell your appetite, cutting the number of calories you eat in a day, while improving your heart health and stoking your metabolism.
5 fatty foods that are actually good for you:
#1: Grass-Fed Beef
A study in Nutrition Journal found that grass-fed meat contains higher levels of omega-3 fatty acids, which are known to reduce the risk of heart disease. And when it comes to your waistline, grass-fed beef is naturally leaner and has fewer calories than conventional meat.
#2: Olive Oil
Olive oil is rich in cancer-fighting polyphenols and heart-strengthening monounsaturated fats, and when it comes to looking lean, it's backed by some pretty strong facts. A recent study from Obesity found that an olive-oil-rich diet resulted in higher levels of adiponectin than did a high-carb or high-protein diet. Adiponectin is a hormone responsible for breaking down fats in the body, and the more you have of it, the lower your BMI tends to be.
Coconut is high in saturated fat, but more than half of that comes from lauric acid, a unique lipid that battles bacteria and improves cholesterol scores. And get this: A study published in Lipids found that dietary supplementation of coconut oil actually reduced abdominal obesity.
#4: Dark Chocolate
Good news for your sweet tooth: Chocolate can help you flatten your belly. Dark chocolate, that is. But to truly take advantage, don't wait until dessert: A recent study found that when men ate 3.5 ounces of chocolate two hours before a meal, those who had dark chocolate took in 17 percent fewer calories than those that ate milk chocolate. The researchers believe that this is because dark chocolate contains pure cocoa butter, a source of digestion-slowing stearic acid.
#5: Almond Butter
Numerous studies have indicated that almonds can help you lose weight despite their high fat content. Almonds contain compounds that limit the amount of fat absorbed by the body, so some passes through undigested. Try stirring almond butter into your oatmeal, spreading it on toast with banana slices, or eating a couple spoonfuls as a snack.

I received Cargo Water Resistant Blush in a recent Birchbox. To get straight to the point, this is the longest lasting blush I have ever worn. When I first read the product's description stating it is sweat, heat, and tear-proof - I was not convinced. However, I already had the sample, so of course I tried it out for myself.
I usually don't really wear foundation on my face (just spot cover-up), but I definitely like to wear blush. Not only did this blush stand up to the sweat I tend to profusely produce during the summertime (or anytime) it also gave such a natural glow to my skin. Overall, I am thoroughly impressed with this blush.
How it Works
One downside is that I haven't been able to find it for less than $26 per .14 ounce/3 grams tin. I don't use a lot at one time, so luckily I am still using my sample tin. A little definitely goes a long way!
If you want to give it try you can buy it HERE.
To say that my husband and I love pizza, would be an understatement. We both admit, with no shame, that if it was socially acceptable, we would eat pizza for every meal... everyday. Knowing that, it shouldn't be too surprising that we make own pizzas at home quite often. Below is our most recent and favorite creation:
Pizza crust (I used pre-made thin crust)
Grated parmsean cheese
- Preheat grill
- Slice tomatoes and baby mozzarella to desired size
- Brush both sides of pizza crust with olive oil
- Grill one side for 3-5 minutes
- Top grilled side with sliced tomatoes, baby mozzarella, basil, garlic, and parm
- Grill remaining side for 3-5 minutes / until cheese is melted
A little background on the Margherita Pizza for you history buffs:
Margherita of Savoy (Margherita Maria Teresa Giovanna; 20 November 1851 – 4 January 1926), was the Queen consort of the Kingdom of Italy during the reign (1878–1900) of her husband, Umberto I.In 1881, the mining town of Margherita in Assam, India was named after her. In 1889, the Margherita pizza, whose red tomatoes, green basil, and white cheese represent the Italian flag, was named after her.

Women's Running posted an easy way to calculate how much water you need to be drinking after a run in order to stay properly hydrated.
Take the test to find out if you are hydrating correctly:
Step 1: Immediately before you go for a run, weigh yourself (naked) on an accurate scale.
Step 2: Go for a 30- minute run. Don’t drink any water during the run.
Step 3: When you return home, weigh yourself again (yes, naked).
Step 4: Subtract your pre-run weight from your post-run weight. Multiply the number of pounds lost by two. That’s the number of pints of water you need to drink per hour (during your run or immediately after) in order to stay properly hydrated.

This month, the Birchbox theme was: Heritage. A little note was included in the box from the founders of Birchbox:
The best part about beauty? It's not the glitter or the gloss, or even those miraculous antioxidants from far-off lands. It's the stories. Every brand we work with, from the just-hatched to the iconic, has its own fascinating history. Just look at Ruffian, a New York-based fashion label started by two designers with a flair for Victorian drama. Their first nail lacquer collection - which all out subscribers will get to try this month - was inspired by the runways but voted on by you. File that away for party conversation when someone compliments your mani.
