A friend of mine recently moved into a new home. Naturally, I wanted to give her a housewarming gift, but I wanted to be more creative than the classic bottle of wine. (Don't get me wrong, wine is nice too!) I thought it would be nice to do something a little different.
Around the holidays I remember coming across several posts for homemade stove top potpourris, but I didn't want to give my friend a potpourri in February that smelled like Fall or Christmas. After searching, I found a simple recipe that would be perfect for a housewarming gift... Lemon & Rosemary Simmering Potpourri.
1 lemon, sliced
1 large sprig of rosemary
2 cinnamon sticks
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1-2 cups of water
In a small saucepan add lemon, rosemary, cinnamon sticks, and vanilla extract. Fill with about 1-2 inches of water. Bring water to a boil over medium-high heat. Reduce to a simmer on low and add water if necessary.
To give this as a gift, I simply put the ingredients in a Ball jar, made a gift tag in Word and printed the tag on thicker paper. Then, I tied the tag to the jar with twine.
Refrigerate until ready to use. You should be able to get a few uses out of it before you need to replace it.
There you have it - a calming scent of lemon, rosemary, and vanilla that simmers on your stove top...and makes a wonderful housewarming gift!
