The majority of my winter running has been taking place on these beauts...
...and to put it bluntly, longer runs can get drastically boring, especially when staring at a blank wall.
Even though I prefer running outdoors, sometimes it just isn't an option for me, so here are a few tips that have been making my treadmill runs more bearable and less boring.
Tip #1: Intervals
Changing up speeds and inclines throughout my workout keeps my run more interesting, rather than training at a constant pace. Plus, interval training can increase the number of calories burned.
Tip #2: Running Buddy
My husband and I usually go to the gym at the same time, so running on side-by-side treadmills just naturally happens. We don't talk while we run, but if you're into that, maybe running next to a friend will make it more fun!
Tip #3: Entertainment
Keep entertained by listening to music, watching a movie or a TV show, listening to an audio book, etc. I got in the habit of not listening to music when I run outside - it tends to be more freeing for me - but on the treadmill I will sometimes listen to a playlist or a podcast to make the time go by faster.
Tip #5: Cover the Console
This might sound silly, but I cover the console of the treadmill with my sweat towel quite often. If I stare at the seconds and minutes slowly ticking by, it makes my workout feel very boring. So, I try not to pay attention to it and cover it up.
Tip #6: Race
Of course, you could just scrap these ideas and race the person next to you... whether they know it or not :)
