Properly fueling your body at the start of every day is extremely important. Here are a few smart breakfast foods to get (or keep) you on the right track:
#1 Greek Yogurt
All yogurt contains vitamin B and calcium. but Greek yogurt packs in double the protein of regular yogurt with the same amount of calories. To keep the sugars low, stick to plain Greek yogurt instead of the fruit-filled flavors. Adding your own fresh fruit to it is a better option.
#2 Fresh Fruit Salad
For those of you who don't like to eat a big breakfast, some fresh fruit might be a good option for you. Eating fruit gives you a nice dose of fiber and can help lower cholesterol.
#3 Veggie Omelet
Get your protein from the egg and your favorite veggies for your vitamins. It doesn't get much better than that!
#4 Whole Grain English Muffin w/ Peanut Butter
Your English Muffin should be 100% whole grain (100% wheat, 100% brown rice four, etc.) Make sure the peanut butter you choose only has 1 ingredient; peanuts. And if it has salt listed, that is OK too.
#5 Quinoa Cereal w/ Cinnamon
This is an option to help you steer clear of the high-sugar cereals. According to Kristin Kirkpatrick, MS, RD, LD, 'Quinoa is a high-protein grain used in salads and dinner entrees, but it also makes a great hot cereal option. Aside, from soy, quinoa is the only plant-based source of complete protein, meaning that it contains all of the essential amino acids.' Pair with almond milk and cinnamon for a great breakfast option!
I usually opt for the veggie omelet or Emglish Muffin with PB. Glad to see they made the list :)
